About

Built on a slope overlooking Bodrum, the ancient theatre has stood for over two thousand years as one of the city's oldest structures. From its seating tiers, you take in a magnificent view of Bodrum Castle and the deep-blue bay. Dating from the Carian period, this theatre could host around thirteen thousand people in antiquity. With its stage building, seating rows and open galleries, it reflects the typical Hellenistic-Roman theatre plan of the era; its restored structure still hosts concerts and events today. Watching a concert here, especially at sunset under the sun sinking over the sea, is an unforgettable experience that unites history and modern entertainment in Bodrum.

History

Construction began in the 4th century BC during the reign of King Mausolus and was expanded in the Roman period. It is one of the oldest surviving theatres in Anatolia and, after restoration, has reopened for events.
