Bursa
The first capital in the shade of green mountains
About Bursa
Resting on the slopes of Mount Uludağ, Bursa — the first capital of the Ottoman Empire — earns its nickname "Green Bursa" from the fertility of its plains and the pine forests of its mountains. From the twenty domes of the Grand Mosque to the turquoise tiles of the Green Tomb, every corner bears the traces of that early era when a small principality grew into an empire. The city is also a culinary landmark: the İskender kebab, bathed in butter, was born here, and candied chestnut became a legend in its streets. Koza Han, in the district of historic caravanserais, has remained the heart of the silk trade for centuries. With Uludağ's ski slopes in winter, the stone streets of Cumalıkızık in summer and İznik's tile workshops year-round, Bursa unites history, nature and gastronomy on a single route.
