Konya
The serene city of Rumi
About Konya
Konya is the city of Mevlana Jalal ad-Din Rumi, whose teaching of tolerance and love has transcended centuries. The Mevlana Museum, its green dome now the city's emblem, is a place visitors from around the world walk through in spiritual calm; during the Şeb-i Arus ceremonies each December, the turning of the whirling dervishes seems to stop time itself. Once the capital of the Anatolian Seljuk State, Konya preserves the legacy of that magnificent era through masterpieces such as the Slender Minaret Madrasa and the Alâeddin Mosque. With its broad boulevards and tranquil rhythm, the city offers a peace far from any rush. With hearty flavours such as oven kebab, metre-long trays of etliekmek and tirit, Konya's cuisine is as satisfying as its spiritual atmosphere.
