About
A few kilometres west of Bodrum town, Bitez is one of the calmest bays on the peninsula. The tangerine groves that stretch right behind the shore give the bay both its shade and its scent. The water stays shallow and still for a long way out, which makes it an easy choice for families with children; that same stillness, combined with the afternoon breeze, also turns the bay into a meeting point for windsurfers. A walking path runs along the shore, lined with cafés and fish restaurants facing one another.
History
Before tourism, Bitez was a village growing citrus and olives; the tangerine groves behind the shore date from that period. As the Bodrum peninsula turned into a holiday region from the 1970s onwards, Bitez largely avoided high-rise development thanks to the protection of its groves.
Visiting Tips
