About

At the westernmost tip of the Bodrum peninsula, Gümüşlük, with its calm atmosphere and clear waters, is one of the peninsula's most authentic corners. This fishing village, where tall construction is banned, is an unflashy escape favoured by artists and those seeking peace. The cove's most magical feature is the ruins of the ancient city of Myndos lying just beneath the water; swimming in the shallows, you can pass over two-thousand-year-old stones. Reaching Rabbit Island opposite the village by walking through the water when the sea recedes is an unforgettable experience. With its seaside fish restaurants, sunset views and tranquil pace, Gümüşlük is an ideal stop for those who wish to discover Bodrum's quiet, poetic side.

History

Gümüşlük is built over the ancient city of Myndos, developed as an important harbour city in the 4th century BC by King Mausolus. Part of the city eventually sank below sea level, and its underwater remains are protected today.
