Çal Cave
One of Europe's longest caves
About
Located in Trabzon's Düzköy district, Çal Cave, at over eight kilometres long, is known as the longest cave in Türkiye and the second longest in Europe. Hidden deep underground, this natural wonder offers an extraordinary exploration experience. Inside the cave are mesmerising shapes formed by stalactites and stalagmites, underground streams and small pools. As its humid, cool air is said to benefit those with asthma and respiratory ailments, the cave also draws interest as a natural therapy spot. Its first section, lit and arranged with walking platforms, is open to visitors; walking amid the sound of dripping water and rock formations shaped over millions of years opens onto an entirely different world beneath the green of the Black Sea.
History
It formed over millions of years as underground waters dissolved the limestone rock. Long known only to locals, the cave was opened to visitors after scientific research made a section accessible to tourism.
