About the Venue

The place from which İskender kebab spread across the world, this eatery was founded in 1867 by İskender Efendi and takes its name from the inventor himself. Still run by the same family, it is less a kebab house than the guardian of a heritage. Thinly sliced döner is laid over fresh slices of pide; a special tomato sauce is drizzled over it, strained yoghurt is set alongside, and sizzling butter is poured at the table on serving. This final touch carries the taste of the meat and bread to an entirely different level. With its plain, classic atmosphere, eating İskender here is a ritual every visitor to Bursa should complete — built not on show but on a flavour unchanged for over a century.
