About
Located in the historic streets of Odunpazarı, the Kurşunlu Complex is an elegant 16th-century Ottoman building group. Bringing together a mosque, caravanserai, madrasa and soup kitchen, the complex was a centre of social life in its era. The mosque section of the structure — which takes its name from its lead-covered domes — stands out for its plain, balanced architecture. The restored caravanserai and courtyard sections are used today as meerschaum workshops, a crafts bazaar and exhibition spaces. With its historic atmosphere, stone courtyard and traditional craft shops, the complex is a natural part of an Odunpazarı visit; a stop offering both the peace of the past and the refinement of handwork.
History
Built in the 16th century, the complex is considered one of the works of Mimar Sinan, the chief architect of the era. It maintained its religious and social function for centuries and, through restoration, was turned into a craft and culture centre.
