Butterfly Valley

A hidden cove home to hundreds of butterflies

About

Near Fethiye, Butterfly Valley is a pristine natural wonder squeezed between steep cliffs, reached only by boat or a challenging path. It takes its name from the hundreds of butterfly species — including the rare tiger butterfly — that fill the valley in summer. Behind the cove opening onto the deep-blue sea, the valley is a corner of paradise with a waterfall running through it, lush vegetation and wildlife. Coming by boat to swim on its beach, walking into the valley to reach the waterfall, offers an unforgettable experience for those who wish to be alone with nature. The valley, where electricity and concrete are consciously kept away, is also a centre of an alternative, nature-friendly camping culture; for those who want to escape the crowds and modern life, it is Fethiye's purest and most enchanting stop.

History

Thanks to its rugged geography, Butterfly Valley has largely preserved its natural state. Discovered from the 1980s by nature lovers and alternative campers, it was declared a 'special environmental protection area' in 1995 and closed to construction.
