About
Part of Fethiye, Ölüdeniz, with its deep-blue lagoon behind the sandbar that shelters its calm waters, is Türkiye's most iconic beach and a world-famous natural wonder. It takes its name ("Dead Sea") from the calm of the lagoon, sheltered from the open-sea waves and just as still. The phosphorescent blue-green tones of the lagoon and the deep turquoise of the open sea form a breathtaking scene at the foot of pine-covered mountains. The beach, with the status of a protected nature park, is ideal for swimming, snorkelling and simply taking in this incomparable view. Paragliders leaping from Babadağ above, gliding over the lagoon, make Ölüdeniz one of the world's most popular paragliding centres; uniting sea, nature and adrenaline, this paradise corner is the heart of a Fethiye visit.
History
Ölüdeniz has existed as a natural lagoon for thousands of years; its name ("Dead Sea") comes from the lagoon remaining still even when the open sea is rough and stormy. From the 1980s, with the rise of tourism, it became one of Türkiye's symbolic beaches and was placed under protection.
